“If your majesty will only tell me the right way to begin” is, to me, at the same time a wager, an attempt and a game.
It’s a wager, inasmuch as it’s the realization of a project, which has been fascinating me for a long time: the orchestration of a purely electroacoustic piece (namely, my piece “iCi – en echo”). Due to the nature itself of the electronic sounds, the operation is far from being a traditional one: the bet is to rethink all events, trying to essentially preserve their character and their meaning. The passage to the orchestra becomes thus a way to make the piece live.
It’s an attempt, inasmuch as, in my path as a composer, it is a step towards the rapprochement of the electroacoustic and acoustic writing: not really as far as results are concerned, rather as far as the way of thinking and operating is concerned, as if the two approaches could cross their perspectives through a mirror (text is indeed drawn from “Through the Tooking Glass”, by Lewis Carroll).
It’s a game, inasmuch as sounds become words, and words become meta-words, keeping, like a shadow, a more or less indelible trace of their previous meaning.
